Like virtually everyone who ever picked up the instrument, I was profoundly affected by Jeff Beck’s guitar playing and crushed by his recent passing. In early high school I was in a Led Zeppelin phase when a mentor slipped me a copy of Jeff’s Truth album and said, “Listen to THIS.” I was forever changed and soon after sold my white Epiphone Les Paul Custom for a Strat Plus with Lace Sensors and a rolling nut. In my life I have been unfathomably fortunate to have met many of my heroes. They have all been friendly and kind; Jeff was no exception. His cool demeanour and warm humour belied the fiery ferociousness that burst from his playing but it was juxtaposed with untold softness and beauty. The world has lost a truly unique guitar icon. Safe travels, Jeff. Please accept this humble tribute as thanks.
