When Radiohead’s Ed O’Brien was learning how to play the guitar as a child, he wasn’t too interested in breathtaking axe acrobatics. As much as he respects that ability, he preferred players who found a subtle and unique way to incorporate their style into the framework of a song.
"I didn’t connect to lead guitarist. I didn’t connect to fast guitarists or blues," he said. "That wasn’t my thing. My thing was these kind of sonics – the sound within the context of a great song and I love that kind of thing."
In this exclusive interview, O'Brien discusses how he learned to play guitar and his unique approach to the instrument when writing music.
