Tom Whitwell who we first encontered with his excellent Music Thing blog back in the day, introduced us to his latest creation, the Workshop System.
Tom explained that this all-in-one analog synthesizer combined a traditional synthesizer framework with the flexibility of a computer. This unique blend allows for myriad functions, shifting seamlessly from a Turing Machine sequencer to a reverb or a MIDI interface, thanks to its program card feature. The system uses a simple RP2040 chip for a diverse range of coding capabilities while maintaining affordability. It includes features like two 70s-style transistor oscillators and two clean humpback filters.
Tom's vision was to create a system that not only stands alone but interfaces smoothly with existing gear.
Available as a DIY kit through Thonk soon.
