This Circle Strings SJ Dreadnought features a solid sitka spruce top with Honduran rosewood back and sides. The spruce provides that characteristic snappy projection, and the rosewood gives the tone a complexity that you can hear in the overtones after a big chord. The neck is mahogany and features an ebony fretboard with 20 frets. There's a nice ebony veneer over the headstock, and with no fretboard inlays (don't worry; there are still dots on the side) and no writing on the headstock, this guitar has a stripped-down, elegant vibe that is instantly classic. The nut and saddle are both bone. The curly maple binding looks great, and the spalted maple end graft by the strap button doesn't look like anything we've seen. The Waverly Butterbean tuners have a tight, precise feel, which should work wonders for that pre-gig tuning neurosis. These appointments are fantastic, but they add up to much more than the sum of their parts. This guitar has its own personality. In the hand built acoustic world, you could easily spend twice as much and not get such a superior instrument.
