Welcome back to ProGuitarShop and ToneReport.com. Today, we’re getting the horns with the Mad Bull from Guitartech. The Mad Bull is a beefy distortion box that gives you a comprehensive history of British amp tones in one box. As a Marshall-style pedal, the Mad Bull is a mids-focused drive, but a wealth of overdrive and distortion voices are available with some careful tweaking. The meat and potatoes of the Mad Bull is the central toggle, which chooses one of three modes: Vegan, Steak and a transparent setting. The Vegan mode gives you a sparkling treble-boosted overdrive, very much like a Plexi. The in-between setting serves up clean transparent boost or low gain drive to push your amp, and the Steak course conjures up a thick, JCM roar.The Mad Bull is extremely sensitive to both pickup type and output level, so rolling back your guitar’s volume and tones knobs provide a fourth dimension to your tone. Because the Mad Bull is modeled after the sound and feel of Marshalls, you can stack it with any other pedal in your chain with great results. When placed after your dirt pedals, the gain of the Mad Bull opens up and combines with your other pedals like a rig within a rig. And just like all other Guitartech pedals, the Mad Bull is hand-made, one at a time in Brazil.
