We've stepped into computer space to bring you the Scrutator, by Malekko. The Scrutator takes the idea of a bit crusher and fully tricks it out with more control than you could ever imagine. An onboard analog preamp preps the signal for the ensuing madness, while a slew of premium op-amps highlights the audio path for pristine processing. The Rate knob controls sample rate reduction, while the Bit knob controls bit depth, from a pristine 16 bits all the way down to a fuzzy 2 bits. The filter knob is actually dual-mode featuring low pass and band pass, and can be set to either by holding the footswitch and powering up the pedal. The accompanying Q knob controls the bandwidth of the filter control. The expression control of the Scrutator is truly revolutionary, as players can assign control to any of the Filter, Q, Rate and Bit knobs simultaneously, but they can control in which direction the control is swept, resulting in some truly twisted and synthy soundscapes. Best of all, a Mix control helps rein in the destruction for some more practical applications. Each Scrutator is made right here in Portland within the lab of Malekko Heavy Industry.
