Well how about this then? Martin Kidd from Victory Amplification got in touch and told Mick that he’d built an amp that he might like to hear… Better still, how about an exclusive look at a final-ish prototype for the Tones For Tache series?
Affirmative!
In this video, Mick tells the story of how Victory had been having conversations with a number of guitar players who wanted a simple, single-channel lunchbox head, with enough power to gig, designed to cover a range of classic tones, that also works well with pedals.
Et voila – Victory is hoping for vintage, American-inspired cleans through to slightly more crunchy ’60s and ’70s British drive sounds, so we’re plugging in to see what’s what.
According to Victory, the amp uses a pair of EL34 valves (switchable for 6L6es like the V30) putting out around 40 watts. It also has the half-power and single-ended modes of the V30.
The amp is single-channel. The two switches on the front panel alter the midrange character and gain and are incorrectly labelled on this prototype example.
On the final amps the switch currently labelled ‘bright’ will be called ‘Voice I & Voice II’. The switch next to the mid control will be called ‘Mid Kick’. Their functions remain exactly as you hear in this video: only the names have changed.
The guitars used are Mick’s Fender American Vintage ’62 Stratocaster and PRS DGT model.
Pedals used are an Ibanez TS808 Tube Screamer with Keeley mod, a Free The Tone Red Jasper Overdrive and a TC Electronic Hall Of Fame Reverb. You can see clearly when they’re switched on and off, and what the settings are.
We also used this amplifier for the entirety of Day 15's Klon Vs Archer video if you'd like to hear it with those pedals.
Victory is telling us that they hope to have amps ready for sale in December, and that the price will be £829, including gigbag.

PLEASE NOTE: This is NOT a review. The amp in the video is a late-stage prototype, not a final production model. A full production model will go through Guitarist’s official review process in due course.
