Alex Hutchings Jazz Arpeggio and Chromatic Lick - Guitar Lesson - Part 1 of 2 - Guitar Instruction and Breakdown - How To Play
We are finally getting around to doing a guitar lesson on the amazing playing of Alex Hutchings. If you are not familiar with Alex Hutchings ... do yourself a favor and take a solid 10 to 20 hours and just watch everything on youTube with his name attached to it.
Alex Hutchings is one amazing guitar player. His tone and touch are among the best out there. His phrasing is also top notch. He seemingly commands so many styles from jazz to rock to blues. We have so many cool ideas of his that we are planning lessons on in the near future ... Hope you stick around for them.
In this lesson we will breakdown a quick jazzy lick filled with arpeggios and chromatic movement that Alex plays while demonstrating the Roland Cube 40 XL Series Amp. It's a really cool lick that has a great swing feel to it and weaves thru arpeggios, scales and chromatic lines seamlessly in such a way that it never sounds like he is playing one or the other.
We've had a lot of folks asking us for help on how to improvise without sounding like you are playing scales or arpeggios or forced chromatic lines. We think this is a great example of exactly that. Mixing a little of each element in a smooth way where there is never too much attention drawn to the technique or the individual elements.
To hear Mr Alex Hutchings play this cool jazzy idea just go to the following link.

The lick that this lesson is based on begins at about 4:42.
We hope you enjoy this lesson ...
