Crafted entirely in Bend, Oregon, the King Koa features a solid western red cedar top. A touch more mellow than spruce, cedar gives your tone a very rich and subtly complex sound that responds well to a light touch but will still liven up when you lean into it. The sides and back are solid pieces of highly figured koa, an exotic tonewood from Hawaii that has a woody, warm sound and great natural compression. Also known for aging very well, koa takes on a sweeter and deeper sound over time. The neck is Honduran mahogany carved to a very comfortable and somewhat fast shape, kind of like a slim C. It features an ebony fretboard with 20 frets, an elaborate mermaid and dolphin inlay at the 12th fret, and a bird inlay at the 5th fret. The body and fretboard are both bound with bloodwood, a deep red/crimson that dresses up the guitar without making it look gaudy. A nut width of 1 3/4" provides enough space for fingerpickers but enough comfort for flatpickers and strummers. The nut and saddle are bone. And you don't have to worry about bridge pins - the bridge on this guitar is basically an acoustic stoptail, so you just slide the strings through and wind them up. Gold Gotoh 510 tuners will keep everything locked down, no matter how hard you play.
