This is one of the questions i get the most headache about, noise in a rig. ground loops can be caused by poorly made patch cables, unshielded pickups, microphonic tubes, but the primary source is bad power to your pedals. in this day and age where digital delays are taking more and more mA of power, it is more important than ever to make sure that power is regulated and isolated to ensure a quiet rig.
for this video i put together a super basic OD - delay - reverb rig with one high powered unit (strymon timeline) and run through an AC style amp (bad cat couger) and a higher gain 6v6 rockerverb. using a kline with P90's (humbuckers will be slightly quieter, and single coils would be a little louder noise wise). The number of higher mA pedals you use can exponentially increase this problem, but if properly powered things stay quiet.
isolated power supplies: Voodoo Labs, Cioks, Juicebox,
non-isolated power supplies: DC brick, One Spot (daisy chains in general)
