The Squier Hello Kitty Stratocaster celebrates the 50th anniversary of Sanrio’s Kitty White gijinka character, as well as the 20th birthday of the original Hello Kitty Strat. The golden anniversary Hello Kitty guitar features a poplar body with pink finish, Kitty White pickguard, matching headstock with Kitty White graphic, C-shaped maple neck, maple fingerboard, red-dot fret-position inlays, 6-saddle hardtail bridge (strings through body), a Fender-designed Alnico humbucker and a deluxe Hello Kitty gig bag.
The Limited-Edition Fender x Hello Kitty Fuzz is an op-amp-based fuzz circuit with three simple and sonically cat-o-trophic controls (Tone, Fuzz, Level). The pink aluminum chassis serves up some adorable feline style with Fender witch hat knobs, Japanese-translated labels and, of course, Kitty White watching you to inspire charming yet crushing riffs.
“The Hello Kitty Stratocaster has the iconic pink color and design touches, but Squier isn’t playing around here,” says Vixen's Diary, a Los Angeles guitarist who has performed with Halsey, anime character Hatsune Miku and Rina Sawayama. “This thing rocks. I love single-humbucker guitars, because they are so unapologetic. In addition, the 6-saddle hardtail bridge is really useful for changing tunings—which is common practice in rock and metal—because you can adjust intonation and string height if you go to Drop D or standard C.
“The Fender x Hello Kitty Fuzz is simple and to the point. I like that fuzz inspires me to play differently. This pedal in particular is so versatile—use just a hair and you get a very useable overdrive. Turn up the fuzz a bit more and you have a lovely and tasteful fuzzy sound that’s perfect for blues and sleezy, sloppy rock. Crank it and there’s this crazy, spitty and unhinged top end that reminds me of psychedelic rock. The beauty of fuzz is that it’s always a little rough around the edges.”
