The 2016 SG Special T is an affordable option for the mini-humbucker enthusiast. Reminiscent of Tribute models of the past, this is an exceptional value.
It’s made of the same materials as its predecessor of fifty years ago with a solid mahogany body and set mahogany neck. It comes in an assortment of eye-catching finishes, all hand-sprayed to preserve its distinct resonance.
The neck marks the return to Gibson’s traditional neck width, using a self-lubricating Graph Tech nut for better sustain and improved intonation when bending notes. The rosewood fingerboard is thicker than last year’s, offering a more solid playing feel, traditional tone and better sustain.
Electronics feature Alnico-powered Rhythm and Lead Tribute humbuckers that produce everything from warmth to searing leads in a more compact package, that also allows you to swap in P90s if you so choose down the road.
Chrome hardware includes a tune-o-matic bridge with stopbar tailpiece and traditional manual tuners that add a vintage note, but with performance that is smooth and efficient. The 2016 SG Special T comes fully set up and ready for action, and includes a nice gig bag.
