As for this Interview ... Allen talks about the early years at Musicians Institute when it was a much smaller school but had so many of the Best Guitarists in the Industry Teaching there ... Instructors like Howard Roberts, Larry Carlton, Robben Ford, Ted Greene, Don Mock, Steve Freeman, Tommy Tedesco and many more. Allen then talks about some of the amazing Talented Guitar Players that graduated from GIT ... Guitar Players like Paul Gilbert, Jimmy Herring, Jeff Buckley, Jennifer Batten , Norman Brown, Scott Henderson, Frank Gambale and the list goes on and on!
It was an amazing time back in the late 70's and 80's. So many of those Great Musicians are players we now listen to and try and steal (borrow) licks from every day. A lot of these gifted Guitar Players became instructors at Musicians Institute ... and one of MI's alumni that still can be found teaching open counselling classes ... is of course the amazing Allen Hinds.
If you are watching this you probably already know all about Allen and his amazing Legato Technique and his awesome touch and feel along with his great sense of phrasing. Allen is the perfect mix of soul and feel vs chops and technique ... he blends it all so cunningly.
In these Interviews (this is the first part of many) we ask Allen everything from where he began (where he grew up), his Musical Education, how he got started Teaching, his views on the guitar industry today vs. back in it's heyday, tips and advice for both the beginner/intermediate and advanced players ... and so much more.
So we hope you enjoy this Interview Series with Allen Hinds ... one of the most requested Instructors at Musicians Institute and one of todays most inspiring Guitar Players around. It was an honor to have had time to sit and talk with Allen and we have plans to do many more videos (Lessons and Interviews) with him in the near future.
