Scott Henderson jazz fusion lick guitar lesson part 1 of 2
This funky jazz lick is from Scott Henderson and the Tribal Tech song called Mango Prom off of the Dr. Hee album. There are several great licks throughout this song ... This is the first one that caught my ear. It sounds kind of "outside" but after breaking it down ... it really is pretty un-outside (if that's even a word). What makes it sound cool is the tone and funky swing feel and the way he uses arpeggios and chord tones to outline each chord.
If you are not familiar with scott henderson you should be ashamed of yourself. Just kidding ... lol
But if you are not familiar with one of the most amazing guitar players of our time ... check out any of his videos. You will be blown away. He also has two or three instructional dvd's that are amazing.

and check out this part of his message board ... for four years ... every few months he would answer peoples email questions ... there is a wealth of knowledge here. Unfortunately he stopped doing this after some jerk made a rude comment to him (you can read that in his final post).

I love all his stuff. But some of my favorite is off of his four solo cd's (dog party, tore down house, well to the bone, scott henderson live) ... of which I plan on doing a few lessons on some of those songs soon. If you haven't heard them ... go right now and buy them ... every single track will make you want to slow it down and learn it note for note.
Outside of his solo stuff ... the Vital Tech Tones and VTT2 are my other favorites.
Scott is a master of tone is one of the legendary teachers at GIT.
I hardly do this song justice ... but I hope you enjoy.
