Samuel C Lees puts our range of electric guitar strings head-to-head to demonstrate what makes each set unique. British Steels, Rotos, Pure Nickels, and Ultramag models are compared with the same guitar part and then played demonstrating how each set excels for a particular music style.
Each of these string models utilise different wrap wire materials: stainless steel, nickel-coated steel, nickel, and type-52 alloy. All of the plain strings are high-tensile tinned steel so you'll only hear a difference in the wound strings.
This video is made in partnership with Wilkinson Direct and each string type is demonstrated with both singlecoil and humbucker pickups from Wilkinson. It also features their WLS130 locking saddles, which offer an unparalleled transmission of string vibration – ideal for comparing the effect of different types of strings.
