The Strymon Deco V2 Tape Saturation & Doubletracker pedal harkens back to the early days of studio tape decks and the recording engineers who “misused” those machines to pioneer the effects heard on hits from Buddy Holly to the Beatles and beyond. The Deco V2 lets you “slam the tape” and “pin the meters” to create saturation, compression and even scorching distortion. In Doubletracker mode, the Deco V2 simulates tape-manipulation effects, such as slapback echo, flanging and chorusing.
“With the Deco V2’s separate saturation and doubletracking sides, I get ‘two for the dollar’ usage out of it,” says Rob Gueringer (“Freaky Rob”), lead guitarist and multi-instrumentalist for artists such as Cardi B, Eminem, Kendrick Lamar and Megan Thee Stallion. “I like using both sides in tandem to create a distortion/slapback sound that’s very huge. The cassette saturation mode, for example, produces all of those iconic overdrive tones from all the records I love from the ’50s and ’60s.”
