Welcome to the Love Drive pedal from 3rd Power Amplification! As it turns out, we’ve been living in the world of 3-D soundscapes and designing amps and speaker cabinets for the past 13 years. When it came time to create our second pedal, we naturally plotted a course that built upon our earlier work with the Roosevelt Drive (still available) and would bring our signature sound to any signal chain out there to enhance the tone, feel and 3-D sound stage of your signal path.
The love drive delivers just that. It’s handbuilt, handwired through whole components offer a fullness and density to the entire sonic spectrum. Thanks to the Love Drive's unique wave-shaping EQ, it's possible to craft your tone to be any number of flavors that your individual musical needs might require. The low frequencies have girth, traction and punch - like you would expect from one of our tube amplifiers. The mid frequencies bloom and track with an instantaneous percussive feel. The high frequencies sparkle and sing without any of the typical harsh overtones associated with most stop box devices. This means that you can open your amp tone controls back up so that when pedals are bypassed you get the full spectrum of tone out of your guitar. And then when you engage your drive pedal it complements perfectly the full frequency response and harmonic structure that your guitar set up was designed to deliver.
The true-bypass, buffered input and output (when active) allow you to place the Love Drive at the beginning, middle or end of your chain. There's plenty of output gain on tap, so driving any amplifier or long cable run won't be a problem. Unity is around 9-10 o’clock and everything above that will push your signal mightily.
Controls
DRIVE - The Drive Control sets the feel, tone and overdrive content of your guitar signal. Settings up to ~10-o clock are clean, punchy and substantial. Settings between 10 and 1-0 clock take you to edge of breakup tones (especially with humbuckers). From there, you’re crafting overdriven textures and lead tones.
3-BAND WAVE-SHAPING EQ - The LOVE DRIVE features a wave-shaping three band EQ arranged across TREBLE, MIDDLE and BASS controls. Your low frequencies will have depth, traction and punch – like you would expect from one of our tube amplifiers. Your mids will bloom and track with an instantaneous and percussive feel. Your highs will sparkle and sing without sounding harsh.
LEVEL - The Level Control sets the overall signal volume exiting the LOVE DRIVE. The active buffered output circuitry is designed to deliver a pure, clean and transparent final gain stage that will interface very well with all our downstream devices. The output buffer is disengaged when the LOVE DRIVE is bypassed.
Each component of the LOVE DRIVE is hand picked, placed into the board, and soldered by hand. Each lead is carefully trimmed. Each wire is carefully placed, twisted and trimmed to length for optimal performance and low noise. Every single nut and screw is hand tensioned to ensure a solid and rugged assembly.
