We dropped by the Electro-Harmonix booth at NAMM 2023 to check out two of their newest pedals, the Lizard Queen Octave Fuzz and the Slap-Back Echo.
Designed by Josh Scott of JHS Pedals (circuit) and Daniel Danger (art) as a tribute to the early years of EHX, the Lizard Queen Octave Fuzz offers a straightforward three-knob control set: Volume, Octave and Balance. While the volume knob is self-explanatory, the Octave knob allows you to dial in just the right amount of analog Octave Up, from zero to full-on mayhem, while the Balance knob acts as a tone control tone taking you from the rolled-off Shadow setting to the searing Sun setting. In the famous words of Mike Matthews, "Rock and Roll!"
The all-analog Slap-Back Echo is a reissue of EHX's 1978 delay rarity. The BBD-powered pedal offers three different time settings (45ms, 65ms, and 100ms), making it a perfect choice for subtle doubling or the classic "bathroom reverb" sound heard on countless recordings of the '50s and '60s. And with up to +20dB of boost via the Gain knob, the Slap-Back Echo is the perfect pedal for the end of your signal chain.
