Palm muting is a technique where you mute the strings near the bridge of the guitar with the palm of your strumming hand. This makes the strings sound more percussive and soft, depending upon the pressure you apply. Mastering this technique gives you much greater control over the dynamics, volume, and sustain of your playing. Nicholas Veinoglou demonstrates how to palm mute, and he shares two exercises to build your mastery of this skill.
