Taylor luthier Andy Powers, who designed the new Taylor Grand Orchestra, brought three different versions of it into the studio to showcase the unique sonic flavors of each tonewood pairing. He played the same passage, his original composition "Western Breeze," on a mahogany 518e, a maple 618e, and a rosewood 918e, all of which feature Sitka spruce tops. In the video, you'll hear all three guitars together, interspersed with isolated excerpts of each guitar. See if you can pick up on the tonal distinctions. Thanks to our friends at Studio West in San Diego for hosting and engineering the session.
