"The Clouds Lift Over Dublin" demonstrates Pedaltrain's Daylight Overdrive and Nightlight Distortion pedals. The purpose(s) of this track is to highlight: a) Daylight's unique ability to be an always-on "cloud lifter" tool. b) Nightlight's textural distortion at low settings and c) how the two work can work together to capture a popular, but elusive, soundscape.
Track Rundown:
1) Clean tone sets the stage in the first few seconds.
2) Daylight enters the track with the percussion, and is on the rhythm track for the duration. The level and tone controls are slightly boosted. Notice how Daylight lifts the clouds and brightens up the base clean tone. This sound inspires the rhythm part, and makes it cut through.
3) The melody line features Nightlight using a slightly boosted level control and tone control, but with a very low drive control.
About Pedaltrain's new pedals:
“Daylight” is a symmetrical overdrive, on the brighter side (hence the name). It is a pleasantly dynamic, musical, and focused. Notice that as you back off the guitar’s volume pot the pedal cleans up. “Nightlight” is on the darker side, asymmetrical, a more full-bodied, beefier, distortion sound. Again, this pedal is very dynamic and can play off of your guitar’s volume. The pedals can stand alone or work together, sort of like an overlapping pedal Venn diagram. We worked hard to make sure the sounds were musical and usable through the entire sweep of the controls.
