Swee Lee presents - Fender Custom Shop Roadshow 2014 at The Substation.
It was such an honour for Swee Lee to collaborate with Fender for the Fender Custom Roadshow 2014 on 24th June! We welcomed Vice President of Product Development for Fender, Justin Norvell, Director of Global Sales for Fender Custom Shop, Joe Reynoso, and Master Builder, Paul Waller a day before the roadshow as they visited our 'By Appointment Only' showroom, checking out the collection of Fender Custom Shop guitars Swee Lee has curated over the years.
The evening at The Substation, where the roadshow was held, was a golden opportunity for all Fender fans to learn all about Fender Custom Shop, its history, and its legacy. And there was absolutely no better way than learning more about it from the folks from Fender itself!
Celebrating the 60th Anniversary of the iconic Fender Stratocaster, Justin spoke about how it was Fender's legacy and pride. Also demonstrating its remarkable versatility, he rocked a couple of tunes by Jimi Hendrix, Mark Knopfler, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Eric Clapton, and even the modern hit by Daft Punk, 'Get Lucky' -- all using the same Strat and settings.
Shifting the focus to what the roadshow was essentially about, the Fender Custom Shop, Paul demonstrated how he put a dismantled guitar together while explaining, together with Joe, the rationale behind them constructing or fixing it a specific way, making a Custom Shop guitar superior. Emphasizing on Custom Shop being the pinnacle of Fender, they shared how reliable Custom Shop guitars are, having been constructed by very experienced builders who put their passion and pride into the guitars, using old school methods with minimal machinery, a lot of sanding, heavy detailing, and extensive labour and effort.
After an engaging Q&A session, Swee Lee Artiste Rosli Mansor took to the stage and gave a fantastic performance, soulfully playing two of his original songs using two different Stratocasters.
Casually ending off the night, everyone got to browse the gallery of over 30 drool-inducing Fender Custom Shop guitars that Swee Lee staff meticulously set up for everyone to get their hands on and try them out. We even got to speak with, take photos and get autographs from Paul, Justin, and Joe!
It was an incredible roadshow and one which we felt great pride hosting! A big thank you to Fender for making this happen and we definitely hope to bring something like this to all our Swee Lee fans again!
