Jimmy Herring jazzy blues lick guitar lesson part 2 of 2
In this clip I breakdown Jimmy Herrings first solo for the song Midnight train off of the Phil Lesh & Friends/There and Back Again CD.
If you are not familiar with Jimmy Herring ... google/youTube him or go to his site ...

You'll be happy you did. He is not only one of the most amazing players. He is one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet. As a teacher of guitar ... he couldn't be more generous with his knowledge ... and his pool of knowledge seems endless. He attended Berklee for a short period of time and graduated from GIT ...
His search for knowledge and guitar tone seems to never stop. And his quest to often emulate the sound of a slide guitar player without using a slide is awesome. I'm sure it has a lot to do with playing nightly with derek trucks
Check out any of the videos on youTube.
Again ... if you're not familiar with him ... to get an idea of the kind of amazing person this guy is ... even though he's such a virtuoso ... check out this video

Anyway ... this is my humble attempt at sharing what I think is a great solo. One that serves the song well ... and really lets the chords lead the solo. And unlike my guitar tone ... I love his on this recording.
***a side note*** ... in the video I said he played with Duane Allman ... lol ... I meant to say the Allman Brothers Band.
Hope you enjoy.
