Why would you want to play a melody on a single string when acoustic guitar players have six (or 12) to choose from? For tonal consistency, that’s why. The tone of thinner, plain gauge strings is very different to that of the thicker wound strings of course, and even though the same notes can be found on multiple strings, they change in tone from one to another.
In this short acoustic guitar video lesson, Elixir Strings artist Shawn Persinger demonstrates this approach with a melody from Verdi’s opera Rigoletto. Download tab: https://bit.ly/3lCfZD6
Staying on a single string allows him to maintain the kind of consistency of tone that singers strive for, but guitar players sometimes overlook. Try your hand at one string guitar melodies.
