Origin Effects tip their hat to the mighty and ubiquitous Tube Screamer and add some welcome, useful features.
First produced by Maxon for Ibanez in the 70's, the 808 or Tube Screamer has held its ground ever since as one of the most iconic guitar-related products in history. Naturally then, it makes sense to add to its appeal and offer what I'll call side-chain features - all great - in an almost indestructible package such as this. The Halcyon's foundations are identical to the original. Then we get Origin's 'Adapt'* circuitry in two switchable levels and they're worth the price of admission alone. But there's the 'Voice' toggle which offers a 'Mod' position: more presence and something that will come in handy for warmer pickups or provide more bite for metal styles. The Dry control lets you decide how much clean signal you want, from none to more, with the standard amount at the noon position. All of this is housed in a premium, industrial-tough, UK-built case with clear and handsome graphics. No wonder the Halcyon won a stack of magazine awards. Do you need another Tube Screamer? Yes. Yes you do!
