In this short video lesson, Elixir Strings artist Mandy Rowden introduces you to palm muting, one of the key right hand techniques to practice. By using the heel of your hand to partially mute the strings near the bridge, you can create driving rhythm guitar parts that add mood and dynamics to your playing. As a beginner guitar player, it’s easy to focus all your attention on your left hand - learning to play chords accurately and nailing scales. But your right hand plays an equally important part in creating your sound and feel. As you develop, you’ll want to move away from simple strumming patterns and incorporate some more controlled rhythmic techniques too.
