Roland's Boutique series hits a real sweet spot for a lot of musicians. The Roland D-05 is a tabletop synth module recreation of Roland's 1987 flagship keyboard, the D-50. The D-05 is faithful in every way to the D-50, along with with some notable enhancements.
It is a rich source of preprogrammed sounds in a variety of categories, all stored in six 64-registry banks of preprogrammed presets. The Roland D-05's front panel offers slider banks that replicate all of the functions of the PG-1000, an optional programming module that was available for creating sounds with the D-50. These edited sounds can be stored in the vast User Banks, which contains eight sets of 64 registries.
The sound of the D-50 defined much of popular and electronic music in the late 1980s and into the 1990s, and it has a renewed relevance and appropriateness today. Glassy strings, warm pads, icy washed and piercing leads are all relevant in contemporary music and the D-05 has each category stocked. It is an especially rewarding instrument for the synthesist, offering complete control over every aspect of each sounds' essential elements. The D-05 can help you make your music truly your own.
