The Strymon Cloudburst is almost like having an AI-driven atmospheric generator inspired by ambient pioneer Brian Eno and every shoegaze artist who documented their reverb obsession in a song. While you can conjure gorgeous and spooky soundscapes using just Cloudburst’s Delay, Pre-Delay, Mod and Mix knobs, the Ensemble engine is a mindblower that tracks your attack, guitar-pickup selection and even your position on the fretboard to produce varied effects in real time.
“Even with Ensemble turned off, the reverb swells are beautiful,” says Hayley Briasco, multi-instrumentalist, composer, producer (under the name Kim Tee) and guitarist for Clairo and Dominic Fike. “But with it, you can create an entirely different universe. I can totally see myself using the Cloudburst in my live rig, or when I compose film scores at home.”
The Cloudburst can operate in mono or expansive stereo, it accepts an expression pedal, and it has a USB jack for MIDI control or installing firmware updates.
