Much like the Player Jazzmaster, the 2018 Player Jaguar modified its traditional tone profile by offering a hum-sing configuration, rather than the classic arrangement of two single-coils. The new Player II Jaguar harkens back to the 1962 original with a Player series Alnico V bridge single-coil and an Alnico II neck single-coil—although each pickup is voiced to produce a retro sound with some extra bite for contemporary guitarists. The Player II Jaguar features some other significant upgrades, such as a rosewood fingerboard with rolled edges, Fender ClassicGear tuning machines, pre-radiused Mustang saddles for the bridge and exclusive vintage-inspired colors.

“Jimi Hendrix was the first person I saw holding a guitar, so Fender was the only type of instrument I associated with being a guitar player,” says London singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer Samm Henshaw. “The Jaguar looked really cool, and it was the first guitar I bought when I was 18 years old. It continues to play a big part in where I’m going with chord progressions, as I feel a bit more adventurous working with the short 24"-scale length. The neck single-coil is really warm sounding, and that’s super important to me as a songwriter. I love soulful, funk-type stuff, and I want to feel the tone of what I’m creating sets up the essence of what the whole song is going to be.”
