One of the most iconic guitars in the annals of rock, blues and jazz, the Gibson ES-335 guided players from B.B King, Larry Carlton and Eric Clapton to Noel Gallagher, Sheryl Crow, Johnny Marr and others to lay down transcendent tones. The ES-335 ’60s Block Limited Edition brings home the sound and feel of this guitar’s most mythic era with T-Type Alnico V humbuckers wound to vintage specs, hand-wired CTS potentiometers, Orange Drop capacitors and old-school top-hat volume and tone knobs. Other features include a three-piece maple top and body, rounded-C mahogany neck, rosewood fretboard with 12" radius, 22 frets, vintage-style bridge and stopbar tailpiece.
“There’s a wide range of things you can do with an ES-335,” says session guitarist, USC professor (with a doctorate of guitar) and leader of her own trio, Dr. Molly Miller. “It shouldn’t be pigeonholed into one sound of one style. The neck pickup is big and beautiful—especially for lush chords with open strings. I use the middle position for single-note lines, as well as lower stuff where I want a little more punch. The bridge pickup has a nice, funky snap, but there’s still a lot of roundness happening. I’m also a fan of this cherry red finish. It’s quite lovely. A little flash is fun.”
