The Moog Muse isn’t as much of an intimidating beast as the patch-cord linked, freestanding synthesizer modules Robert Moog pioneered in 1964, but—thanks to decades of evolving Moog products and five years of direct development for this instrument—it’s quite a potent creative machine for sound designers, composers, audio producers and synth disciples. With analog bi-timbral 8-voice polyphony, arpeggiator, chord memory, sequencer, stereo Diffusion Delay processing, enhanced performance controls and more, the Muse is a lot to take in. Happily, Moog Music product strategist Max Ravitz is on hand to take you through all of Muse’s features. So, never fear, you’ll be a Muse master after watching Ravitz’s comprehensive and approachable video tutorial.
“The Muse is a significant instrument for us,” says Ravitz. “Because, in the history of Moog, we’ve only made four poly synths—the Polymoog in the ’70s, Memorymoog in the ’80s, Moog One in the 2000s and now the Muse. Of course, the most important thing about a synthesizer is how it sounds. For the Muse, our sound sources start with two voltage-controlled oscillators based on the topology of the Minimoog Voyager. However, we developed a new wave-shaping paradigm that gives you three different points of expression for modifying and morphing waveforms. The Muse is a really powerful compositional workbench. We think it will inspire you as you use it in your productions and also offer you all kinds of places to grow as you explore it.”
