The Ebony Project: https://tylrgt.rs/TaylorEbonyProject
In 2011, Taylor Guitars became the co-owner of the Crelicam ebony mill in Cameroon. Thus began a remarkable journey to learn every aspect of the ebony trade, including its impact on the forest ecosystems of Africa’s Congo Basin and the local communities that rely on ebony for their livelihood. In late 2017, we brought a video team to Cameroon to capture stories of the people involved in the ebony trade and our work there. We take viewers to the chaotic capital city of Yaoundé and the Crelicam mill; deep into the African bush where ebony trees are sourced; and into villages where employees and their families live. You’ll come away with a whole new appreciation for the effort that goes into transforming an ebony tree into essential parts for every Taylor guitar made. In this preview, Bob Taylor reflects on the lives Taylor owners are helping to support, along with our work to establish a new model of responsible forestry in Cameroon.
