What is a "Budget Banger"? Well, any inexpensive guitar that has been modified to hit above its weight class can be considered a budget banger.
In this video, I take an inexpensive early '70s "student" guitar most likely of Japanese or Korean origin and turn it into something special with the help of a pair of Lollar Jaguar pickups, a new pickguard, some new tuning machines, a Wilkinson roller bridge, and some new control components from Emerson Custom. I also shimmed the neck, polished the frets, and shielded the body and back of the pickguard. Now the guitar plays and sounds way better than it ever has!
The project took less than a day's worth of work and was done using parts and tools that I already had lying around the house and garage. I have no formal training, nor did I utilize any tools that can't be acquired, relatively inexpensively, from most local hardware stores, Harbor Freight, or on Amazon. The goal of this project was not to make the most pristine and professional instrument, it was to take something I already had and improve it in hopes of occupying some time at home and, hopefully, encourage others to do the same. I'm sure some may find errors or mistakes sprinkled throughout the video, and I apologize for any that I missed. But, again, perfection was never my primary concern.
