This eighth video in the series shows you how I chose an acrylic clear lacquer finish, the quantity I used, and how I proceeded to use simple spray cans to achieve a great result. But it's not as easy as some might suggest and the careful instructions shown here should be adhered to so you can achieve a durable and long lasting finish to your Warmoth electric guitar body and neck.
I show every step here in part 8 that I took to arrive at a great gloss finish on my Strat guitar and offer a few tips and tricks that I picked up along the way that other probably won't show you, that I picked up from personal experience. You might be surprised at just how good the achieved final finish is on this Warmoth guitar and how it enhances the overall depth of color from the dye I used in earlier videos in this series.
This acrylic clear coat finish was purchased in the UK from Halfords, a store selling car related products, rather similar to 'PEP Boys' in the USA who I am sure will sell similar materials.
The secret to a successful acrylic clear coat finish on a Fender Stratocaster or any other guitar is not to rush the work, or to apply the coatings too thick. You should have at least three coats of clear coating and maybe more, allowing at least 20 minutes for drying between coats. But I cover much more in this video so that you too can create your perfect Warmoth or Fender Stratocaster easily.
In Part 9 we will cover the way to achieve a great gloss on the body and neck and a few alternatives and without using expensive equipment.
Other components used in the series include: Fender Machine Heads, an Babicz Tremolo, a Fender Clapton boost circuit and its installation, Fender 69 custom shop pickups and one or two other surprises along the way.
This video series is entirely unsponsored and I purchased every single electric guitar part just as you would have. I sincerely hope that this series of videos can inspire you too to have a go at creating a guitar what ever type it might be. Do study the course as I show it and have a go at making your guitar - it's easy when you are shown how. I have spent considerable time creating these video series at my expense:
