I play a Gibson SG Custom Shop using a felt pick and the resulting tone is beautiful and balanced and not at all dull as one would expect. The gear I'm using is:

2013 Gibson SG Standard Aged Custom Shop with a late 1970s DiMarzio Super 2 K10 Pickup in the bridge.
2016 Pure Tone Amps, Offset
1972 Marshall 4x15 Model 1979A with stock G15M50 55Hz Greenbacks.
1960s Beyerdynamic M160
2008 API 512C Mic Preamp
