In this four part guitar lesson we will breakdown this cool 12 bar blues where Guthrie Govan does it yet again ... not failing to make eyes pop and ears wonder what the heck he is doing and how exactly he is strangling his strings. He definitely has a way of playing with such aggressions while still making things sound so pretty. I guess that's called passion and feel.
Guthrie Govan is without question one of the most amazing guitar players on the planet today. He can play any style of music convincingly and he has a feel and touch that takes most people a lifetime to even approach. Guthrie's guitar tone is perfect for each situation which most likely comes more from his fingers then it does his guitar or amps. There's not much more need be said about Guthrie Govan. He's just all kinds of good stuff wrapped into one human.
But onto this lesson. In this guitar lesson we are going to breakdown note for note the first 12 bars of this simple blues progression. This is a 12 bar blues in 12/8 ... which means there are 12 8th notes per measure with a shuffle feel. It is pretty straight forward with the exception for a small two measure chord change towards the end right before the turnaround.
We will begin with a brief description of the chord changes and then dive right into breaking down the solo. We are only going to breakdown the first 12 bars of this solo because I'm not sure if the folks that uploaded this video are actually going to a lesson on it or not. If they do not I will try and breakdown the rest of the solo. There is so much good stuff going on in this entire blues jam that I could do ten lessons on this.
But for now lets start with this one.
Enough talkie ... I hope you guys enjoy this lesson. I had a lot of fun transcribing and doing a breakdown of this quick 12 bar blues jam solo that Guthrie Govan simply tears apart like no other.
Alright ... Lets get to it.
