In this clip I demonstrate how to record drums with only one microphone, such that they cut through a dense mix. The drums are 1940s, 1950s Ludwig WFL drums of the sizes: 6.5X14 and 20x14. The clip also contains a shootout (comparison) between a number of vintage Paiste hihats:
* 15 inch Paiste Formula 602 Medium Hihat (Blue Label)
* 15 inch Paiste 2002 Medium Hihat (Black Label)
* 14 inch Paiste 2002 Medium Hihat (Black Label)
* 14 inch Paiste 2002 Sound Edge Hihat (Black Label)
They are listed in order of brightness and volume.
The drums are recorded using a tube condenser microphone Peluso 2247LE, an API 512C preamp, an API 550B Equalizer. The sound interface is an Apooge Duet and the DAW is an Ipad (Cubasis).
The drums are placed in mixes of various density using Shakers, a martin D28 Marquis and the Ipad apps:
* iLectric Piano
* Mellotron M3000
* Waldorf Nave
