The Catalinbread Belle Epoch 'Tape Echo" captures not only the decay and behavior of an EP-3, but the nuances and "ghosts in the machine" that are inherent in a mechanical delay. Starting with a discrete preamp that is just as important to the EP-3 sound as the tape itself, the Belle Epoch can produce the unexplainable attack and brilliance that has made players such as Eric Johnson and Jimmy Page cling to their tape machines after all these years. The Belle Epoch is also designed to run straight into the front end of an amp and can easily drive your tubes with the internal gain, not to mention trail off naturally when not in true bypass mode. An accurate delay range of 80-800ms allows easy access to classic slapback and long delay that begs for Brian May-esque harmonies. Plus, the modulation control increases the depth of some truly authentic wow and flutter while the Record Level, like the original, adds warmth and tape-like saturation for greater distinction between dry and wet signals.
