After using the name previously on a handful a one-offs that resembled the single-cut L-5CT in the late ‘50s and early ‘60s, Gibson revived the “Crest” name from ’69-’72 to make around 170 of these double-cut thinline guitars more similar in appearance to an ES-355, but with a fully hollow body (like an ES-330) constructed from a figured Brazilian rosewood veneer. Featuring two floating pickups, these second-generation Gibson Crest models were available in either silver- and gold-plaited hardware options—so that, eventually, collectors started referring to rare birds like these as “Gibson Crest Gold.” Here it here, then check out our selection of vintage Gibson thinline guitars available now at CME today!
