I made a guitar out of firewood for the guitar I will be using on my future album. The guitar is made from common firewood you can get at any store. It is made out of birch and white oak. The parts I used were ones I had lying around the shop. I take you through the process of building this guitar.
I prefer to use things that most people would throw away when I build guitars for myself. In this case firewood. I did this build in between the time I have been building a few custom guitars and doing restorations. The total time was weeks, but maybe 12 hours in labor. It was a side project. The neck was one I had lying around I had no use for. I didn't feel like building a new neck.
I did what I call an organic build. These are builds that have no plans or vision. They are completely improvised builds, and there are no mistakes. All accidents or parts that are imperfect become incorporated into the build.
It is much like a blank canvas and you just start painting until you have a finished masterpiece. It allows your creative nature to take over the build where you are not judging or trying to copy someone else. It is pure expression.
to get my luthier course you can find it here www.GelvinGuitars.com/shop it is a great course for those who want to learn how to repair and build custom guitars or basses.
I would very much like to see your organic build by posting it here on YouTube and placing the tag #organicbuild so I will be able to find it.
