After scoring this rare late 80s (Japan-market) Yamaha SAS-II, I decided to swap the stock EMG Select Passive humbuckers with some vintage-voiced pickups. Total Gravy Guitarworks make quite a few different PAF varieties out of Fullerton, CA. Based on their recommendation (for this semi-hollow) I went with their ‘Early PAF’ - a mix of Alnico IV (Neck) and Alnico II (Bridge). Before taking the guitar to my guy Wrightsounds in Portland for the install, I recorded some ‘Before’ clips out of curiosity. I think these are more my style, what do you think of the results?
