Guthrie Govan Guitar Workshop Plus Guitar Licks Guitar Lesson - Part 2 of 3 - Guitar Instruction and Breakdown
For all you Guthrie Govan fans we have another Guitar Lesson based off of a video that was recently uploaded to youTube by the fine folks at Guitar Workshop Plus. This short video is an introduction to a clinic/workshop that Gutrhie is going to teach/play at. At the very beginning of this video Guthrie bestows upon us some more of his guitar awesomeness!
You can check out Guthrie playing this cool noodling around kind of improve solo by going to this link:

To describe it as simple pentatonic, blues scale, and dorian licks would be fine if anyone but Guthrie was playing it. It's pretty much 35 seconds of guitar improvising using simple scales and arpeggios but played at a blistering speed. His technique, as usual is flawless ... and the tone he gets (even while using a clean tone) is just perfect.
In this three part lesson we will breakdown ... note for note what Guthrie is playing. We will talk a bit about technique in order to hopefully make this easier to play and we'll also do a little theory talk so that you can begin to use parts of what you will learn here in your own playing and improvising.
I'm sure you are familiar with Guthrie Govan if you are watching this and reading this description. But if you are not ... just do a youTube search ... you will be happy you did. This guy is one of the most amazing guitar players. He is beyond proficient in so many styles from rock, blues, jazz to country. Mr. Guthrie Govan has obviously learned much from all the great guitar players that have come before him. Players such as Eddie Van Halen, Steve Vai, Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page, Steve Morse, Larry Carlton, Scott Henderson, Michael Landau, Allen Hinds, Dann Huff, Eric Johnson, Frank Gambale.
If you are interested in becoming a more rounded guitar player like Guthrie, I would suggest studying some of those players mentioned above.
I hope you enjoy this lesson ...
