Guthrie Govan Jazzy Style Guitar Solo Section from Bad Asteroid - Part 3 of 3 - Guitar Lesson
In this guitar lesson we are going to take a look at a much requested solo by the great Guthrie Govan. We've had so many requests for this one and I hope this lesson lives up to all the expectations.
As you can tell by the number of lessons on our channel on the topic of Guthrie Govan ... He is definitely one of my favorite players. He just always plays such unique guitar solos and guitar licks. Even when he is just improvising, his solos always sound composed and ready to record.
This short jazzy solo section of the song Bad Asteriod starts with some nice chromatic runs followed by some great arpeggio licks ... throw in some diminished licks and you have a great quick 16th note study. And that's what I liked most about this solo ... as always, he does so many great things all in one solo but it never sounds like he is just linking one idea to another idea to yet another idea. It always sounds like it is one continuous idea.
What usually attracts me to Guthrie Govan and his lead guitar playing are the subtleties in introduces ... his unique bends, slides, slurs and vibrato. There's not a whole lot of that in this solo and it still really peaked my interest ... that usually does not happen for me when it is a pretty strict 16 not solo with no bends or other articulations.
Anyway ... if you are interested in exploring more jazz guitar solos with clean tone guitar just do a search for Ted Greene, Ron Eschete, Robben Ford, Shawn Lane, Matt Schofield, Larry Carlton, Michael Brecker, Derek Trucks, Frank Gambale, Alex Hutchings, Allan Holdsworth, Brecker Brothers, and Don Mock to name just a few.
