When steel guitar player, Dan Tyack reached out to us several months ago, he asked us to make him a pickup that had the tone of our popular Gold Foil singlecoil pickup, but offered hum-cancellation (like a split coil P-Bass pickup), we figured why not build a design that blended the two in form and function, while maintaining the tone he was after?
After some accommodations were made for the additional coil and the form factor of his Franklin pedal steel, we were able to come up with an offering that answers all his needs. The contrast and compliment between the stock Bill Lawrence humbucker in the back and our custom "Split Foil" in the front gives Dan a much more versatile steel guitar with tone that ranges far beyond what the instrument was originally capable of. The two pickups together offer far more harmonics and a more three-dimensional tone, as well as a more voice-like sound.
