CHAPTER TIMESTAMPS AND LINK BELOW
We are pleased to announce a new pickup in the Lollar lineup: the ’63 Jazzmaster! As you likely know, the sound of Jazzmaster guitars and pickups changed through the years, and our current Jazzmaster pickup was voiced to a 1958 pre-production model owned by Jason Lollar. A while back our friend and neighbor guitar tech Jeff Hoppe stopped by our shop with his 1963 Jazzmaster guitar in tow. Upon hearing it, we realized how different the sound of his pickups was from the ones we’ve offered for years. And both sound fantastic! So, we set out to recreate the tone of Jeff’s pickups which resulted in the creation of the Lollar ’63 Jazzmaster model.
How does the ’63 Jazzmaster sound?
Compared with our long-standing popular Jazzmaster pickup, the ’63 Jazzmaster offers a woolier sound, with a slight midrange scoop, a softer attack, and a fuller-sounding neck pickup. We used Alnico 2 magnets for the ’63 and it comes with flat pole pieces, just like the pickups it was modeled after. It’s a drop-in replacement for vintage and most re-issued Jazzmasters and comes in black, white, cream, and parchment covers.
