Today we're diving deep into one of our custom presets in the TC Electronic Alter Ego X4, the 'Copykat'. In 1958, Charles Watkins introduced the world to a portable unit that could make a guitar sound like it was at the bottom of the Grand Canyon. Armed with a short tape loop that could do slapback echo or medium length rhythmic delay, the WEM Copicat went on to being one of the most popular echo units in history. Thankfully, with TC Electronic's advanced algorithms it was possible for us at PGS to not only recreate the same Lo-Fi frequency range and slight tape wobble but the growling saturation that comes from the unit's input gain. Large amounts of feedback give this preset an even dirtier quality that contrasts beautifully with a clean guitar signal.
