Welcome back to Proguitarshop.com. Today we're expanding on the features and tones of the new Catalinbread Echorec. After years of development and fine tuning, Catalinbread have managed to capture the sonic magic from this short lived but highly sought after form of analog technology.
Just like the original, the Catalinbread Echorec is a multi-tap echo, which stems back to 4 playback heads, spaced at different intervals. In a similar fashion, you can select up to 12 combinations of these virtual heads and take advantage of a variable delay range, as opposed to the fixed speed of a rotating metal drum. A tone control shapes the sound of the repeats from warm and blurry like a reverb, to bright and punchy like a tape delay. The Catalinbread's swell or feedback control allows self oscillation and time warping like an analog delay. Vintage Echorecs produced modulation strictly as a by product from wear and tear of moving parts. On the inside of the Catalinbread Echorec, you can choose just how heavy you want this modulation to be, from nonexistent to tastefully warped. Other modern features include true bypass or a buffered trails circuit, which was designed to provide a similar feel and warmth like the vintage units.
