We stopped by the Dunlop booth at Winter NAMM 2019 for a closer look at the new MXR DD25 Green Day Dookie Drive effects pedal.
Billie Joe Armstrong’s guitar tone "Dookie" came from Billy running his guitar into two heavily modded British amps. One amp was scooped and loaded with gain while the other had a particularly well-defined midrange. The final tone you hear on the record is the band's preferred blend of the two amps, with adjustments made to suit the overall vibe and energy of each song.
The pedal has "High Gain" and "Clean Gain" sections, each with their own distinct controls. A Blend control allows you to set the perfect mix between the two sounds, just as the band did in the studio. Need a little more scoop? Just hit the Scoop switch!
