Alternate picking is an essential guitar skill that many guitar players overlook in the early stages of playing. If you’re a new player, or you remember your early days, you may recall picking only one direction, either down or up. Alternate picking is when you start mixing both down and upstrokes to maximise speed, timing and fluency in whatever you’re playing.
This lesson is going to cover 5 useful alternate picking exercises that can be used by beginner or more experienced alternate pickers to take your picking to the next level. Everything can be played with or without a metronome and for best results start slow and focus on the notes before focusing on the speed.
