You may not think of David Bowie as a guitar player, I mean, why would you? He’s had some of the
best players around at his disposal over his career.
Mick Ronson, Earl Slick, Nile Rogers, Stevie Ray Vaughan… Why would David Bowie ever need to play when he has access to those players?! However, this riff was written by the man himself. Bowie, from time to time, does pick up the guitar and comes out with a few classics.
This was written as a slight dig at the Rolling Stones. Bowie wanted to write a riff to annoy Stones frontman Mick Jagger. This riff, for the most part is fairly simple but does contain some tricky string skips.
